A co-worker recently asked me what resources I utilize for management related issues.
The single best advice I ever received…
Always remember you work for the people on the team, not the other way around.
Take that to heart. Your job as the Lead or Manager is simply to unblock and enable the team by any means necessary.
At a past GDC I attended a presentation from the folks at Manager Tools. It really changed my thought process on how to work for and manage creative folks. I’m especially fond of the Management Trinity. This is where I based a lot of my One on One process on, which has been very beneficial for me in my role. I’m not using the feedback model often enough, but when I do i see great results in the team member and myself.
And this is just pitch perfect.
